Before Wednesday season 2 even premiered, fans knew to expect a decreased focus on the titular character's love life after Jenna Ortega expressed disinterest in the season 1 love triangle. Following the release of season 2 part 1, we have now seen Ortega's tease in action. Throughout the season, Wednesday doesn't have a love interest, and it's not a priority for the character or series at all.
But that doesn't mean that romance is completely off the table for Wednesday, the character or the series, moving forward. While one of Wednesday's season 1 love interests was written off the show, she comes face to face with the other now that he's been locked away in an asylum. Believe it or not, apparently there's still a chance for a romantic reunion, even after season 2 part 1's shocking ending.
Hunter Doohan teases Tyler and Wednesday's relationship
While speaking with Us Weekly, Wednesday star Hunter Doohan didn't shut down the possibility of Wednesday and Tyler possibly getting back together in the future. "Can anyone be too dark for Wednesday Addams?" he teased to the magazine, though the pair getting back together probably isn't what the fans — or, most importantly, Wednesday — would want.
Warning: Spoilers from Wednesday season 2 part 1 from this point forward.

"You can see it in episode 2, the shift from the taunting in a flirty way and the way he is talking to her. Then when he finds out she’s just there for information, then it switches and he gets really angry because he’s so hurt," Doohan explained. Because Tyler has been so hurt, especially by Thornhill, perhaps he's still a bit scorned and and that's why he takes it out on Wednesday in season 2.
In Wednesday season 2 episode 2, Wednesday and Tyler come face to face for the first time since the events of the season 1 finale. It's an understandably tense moment between the two that ultimately leads to their next reunion in episode 4. When Tyler's released in his Hyde form, he and Wednesday again come face to face. While we don't see it happen on camera, Wednesday's thrown out of the asylum's window during the encounter, possibly plummeted to her death.
There have been questions about whether Tyler was actually the one who threw Wednesday out of the window, but Doohan essentially confirmed that Tyler's Hyde was responsible: "I would say it was him." It's different retaliation compared to how he ends Thornhill's life, and based on the topic at hand about the couple possibly getting back together, not a particularly romantic one.
Honestly, Wednesday's pivot away from the title character's personal life has been a breath of fresh air. The series didn't need romance to make the character dynamic, and we didn't lose anything at all from that part of her life being removed. In fact, the character might have even become stronger and more self-assured without having to entertain a love triangle or love interest.
Also, past genre-based series have had its main characters romance villainous characters, like Buffy having a toxic relationship with Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Although there can be interesting stories to tell, we realistically don't need to see Wednesday falling in love with an ex-boyfriend who's not only a monster but threw her out of a window. Just let her solve her mysteries and save her best friend, please.
Wednesday season 2 part 2 premieres Sept. 3 on Netflix.
