It's been a long wait for House of the Dragon season 3, but that period of anticipation is almost over. In less than two weeks, HBO will premiere the third season of its Game of Thrones spinoff, and it promises more fire, more blood, and epic storytelling than ever before. The Dance of the Dragons civil war is about to reach some of its most brutal stretches, and beloved characters and dragons alike will begin to die en masse.

If you're preparing for House of the Dragon, you're going to want to get your calendar out and block out an appropriate amount of time to watch, grieve, and bask in the excitement each week as the Blacks, led by Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and the Greens, led by the family of Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), go head to head across the realm.

House of the Dragon's season 3 premiere drops on Sunday, June 21 at 9:00 p.m. ET, on HBO and HBO Max. It's set to be a massive, 72-minute long episode that will feature the Battle of the Gullet, a bloody naval battle that will shift the course of the war.

Let's break down the rest of the full House of the Dragon season 3 release schedule. Unless otherwise noted, each episode premieres at 9:00 p.m. ET, the usual Game of Thrones timeslot.

What will happen in House of the Dragon season 3?

The third season of House of the Dragon gets into the meat of the Dance of the Dragons civil war, as told in George R.R. Martin's fake history book Fire & Blood. This season will reportedly feature a number of important battles, from the Gullet to the Butcher's Ball to the First Battle of Tumbleton. A number of major character deaths will happen as well, and not all of them on the battlefield. I know it's easy to overhype a show, but this really should be House of the Dragon's most thrilling season yet by quite a large margin.

At the heart of that are of course the close allies and family members of Rhaenyra and Alicent, such as Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), Jacaerys Velaryon (Harry Collett), and Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) on the side of the Blacks, and Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell), Helaena Targaryen (Phia Saban), and the twins Tyland and Jason Lannister (Jefferson Hall) on the side of the Greens. Then of course there are free agents, such as the Harrenhal witch Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), and King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney), who fled into hiding with the spymaster Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) at the end of season 2.

In addition to all the returning cast members, there are also some important new figures joining the fray this season. Lord Roderick Dustin (Tommy Flanagan) leads the Winter Wolves, a contingent of old, battle-hardened Northman who come south to fight for Rhaenyra. Ser Torrhen Manderly (Dan Fogler) is set to make his appearance as well; he serves as an important role as one of Rhaenyra's advisors in the book. Then there's Lord Ormund Hightower, the head of House Hightower and Alicent's cousin, played by House of Guinness' James Norton. His Hightower host will march into battle as well, along with a young dragonrider named Daeron Targaryen, the youngest son of Alicent and King Viserys who has served as a ward in Oldtown for nearly his entire life.
