Game of Thrones Season 5 reported to film in Kaštel Gomilica near Split
By Lightbringer on in Filming, Production.

A new location for the filming of Game of Thrones Season 5 has been uncovered by Total Split. We learned earlier this year that Šibenik would be added to the list of locations in Croatia, and Kaštel Gomilica looks to be added as well.

Today, a local portal, grada Kaštela, informed the public that on August 14, there would be several hours of controlled burning of trash and other fine materials along the sealine in Kaštel Gomilica, opposite of a fortress known as Kaštilac. The announcement came with one other special note – it was to prepare for the filming of Game of Thrones.

Kaštilac is an ancient fortress within Kaštel Gomilica, a small settlement just miles from Split. Kaštilac lies on an island 40m from the shore, connected by a stone bridge, and is one of the original seven castles of Kaštela.

With the burning taking place tomorrow, it’s safe to assume that filming will be gearing up in Croatia quite soon. Guesses on what this location will represent?

R’hllor temple along the Braavos canals. It’s about time we started seeing hints of Melisandre’s religion in other places that’s not Westeros.

My first thought upon seeing this was White Harbor, but all rumors are pointing to the Manderlys being replaced by the Umbers in Season 5 (which is quite a shame; I was so looking forward to a nice piece of pie). This location could definitely be used for part of Braavos as well.

The fires were to clean trash, to prepare for filming. Says it right there ithere in the caption.

The Kastel of black and white? Maybe?

White Harbor, with some CGI it could look like the New Castle overlooking the sea

depending on the size of the “burning”, maybe the Tower of the Hand being burnt by Cersei?

    weatherman,

Dorne Beach is Portstewart Strand in Northern Ireland. They can make it look hot.

    weatherman,

The “weather” is something they can alter very easily and probably the least of their problems. All they need is a foggy morning and bam. And even then, they can CGI most of the atmosphere.

    Thiago Slash,

I wish, but it doesn’t fit. The tower in the show isn’t close to the water. And I highly doubt they’ll even keep that scene from the books.. much to my disappointment.

cat of the canals is the best guess, but I’m hoping it’s Iron Islands and Kingsmoot related.
