A new month has dawned, which means it's time to take stock of all the new TV shows and movies coming down the pike. We've been fretting about the future of fantasy and science fiction TV a bit of late, but not to worry: there are still some exciting genre series to check out in February.
While the year overall is pretty stacked with fantasy and sci-fi stuff, February is a bit of a light month. We'll see the return of a gritty animated superhero drama, a new installment in Netflix's ongoing fantasy franchise The Witcher and...the Bible, but Game of Thrones-ified? Yeah, it's gonna be a strange one.
Here are all the genre shows and movies we've got on the docket in February 2025:
1. Severance season 2 — Airing now (Apple TV+)
Yes, Severance technically premiered in January, but it's going to be airing new episodes all the way through February. Since it's undeniably the largest sci-fi release of the moment, we need to shout it out.
This mind-bending drama revolves around people who have "severed" their work selves from their at-home selves, creating two distinct personalities. The first season ended with a few massive reveals as the "innies" — the at-work personalities — broke out and got a glimpse of their outside lives. Season 2 is running hard with those plotlines, as Mark S (Adam Scott) tries to find an important person from his "outie's" life who he realized is still alive somewhere in the Lumon office building. If you're into genre fare and you're not watching Severance, you're missing out one of the best sci-fi shows in recent years.
2. Invincible season 3 — February 6 (Prime Video)
Another big genre release for February is Invincible, the gritty animated superhero show from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. Unlike the show's second season, which was broken into two parts, season 3 will air all in one go, with the first three episodes dropping on February 6 and then one per week after that.
Invincible's second season built up a brutal showdown between Mark Grayson aka Invincible (Steven Yeun) and the Viltrumites, a super-powerful alien race that had designs on conquering Earth. They ultimately left Mark with a warning that they would return to claim the planet, and that they expected him to do a better job of paving the way than his father, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). In season 3, Mark will have to face that looming threat head on, as well as navigate the complexities of family life and encounters with a slew of new villains.
Winter Is Coming writer Ashley Hurst has had a chance to watch the first six episodes already and loved them; check out his spoiler-free review of season 3.
3. The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep — February 11 (Netflix)
Out next bit of genre TV isn't a show, but an animated movie spinoff of a TV show franchise. So that counts, right?
The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is the latest installment in Netflix's ongoing Witcher franchise, and it's notable for a few reasons. It's set during Geralt of Rivia's younger years, when he was traveling the Continent with the bard Jaskier on various adventures. Specifically, it takes place between episodes 5 and 6 of The Witcher season 1; that means Geralt has already met his sorceress lover Yennefer of Vengerberg, but they haven't had their big falling out during the dragon hunt.
Sirens of the Deep adapts the short story "A Little Sacrifice," which is one that the mainline series didn't have space to fit into earlier seasons. It's essentially author Andrzej Sapkowski's take on The Little Mermaid, as Geralt finds himself in the middle of a simmering conflict between humans living in the seaside village of Bremervoort and a nearby kingdom of merpeople.
This animated movie was created by Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, Devil May Cry). Most exciting of all, it features the return of Geralt's video game voice actor Doug Cockle in the lead role.
4. Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 — February 13 (Netflix)
Our next entry isn't sci-fi or fantasy, but it's the sort of show a lot of genre nerds like so we're going to include it. This February, we'll finally get to see the final episodes of Cobra Kai, Netflix's sequel series to the Karate Kid movies. With plenty of karate action, decades-long grudges being settled, and (hopefully) a fitting sendoff for legacy characters like Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), Cobra Kai is going to be a major release this month.
When last we saw the students of the Miyagi Do dojo, they headed to the sekai taikai tournament in Barcelona, Spain, where they faced off against the best karate students in the world. It was a bloody affair, and all bets are off for how these final five episodes will wrap things up.
5. Captain America: Brave New World— February 14
The biggest genre movie release of February is Captain America: Brave New World. This is the next chapter in the eternally ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Does that sound jaded? Maybe! The MCU has worn fans down an awful lot in recent years with more middling entries than great ones. But perhaps the new Captain America will help that trend move in the other direction.
Brave New World certainly has plenty of elements that have me excited to see it. This movie finally returns the focus to new Captain America Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who we saw take up the Vibranium shield all the way back in 2021’sThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Sam will have to grapple with what it means to be Captain America as new threats rise and the U.S. government moves to sideline him for their own interests. Plus, he’ll have to contend with Harrison Ford as the president/the Red Hulk! Marvel began work on this movie in 2021 and has taken its time to get it right, so I’m hopeful the end result will be spectacular.
Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14.
6. House of David — February 27 (Prime Video)
The final show on our radar for February is an intriguing one: House of David. This series is a retelling of the story of David and Goliath from the Bible, as well as some of David's later trials once he ascends to become a king in his own right. I didn't expect to have any interest in this, but I've gotta say that the trailer looks surprisingly epic. We see a young David facing off with the giant, claiming his place as a champion as he runs toward the towering man with naught by a sling and a stone. For my money, it looks like the Bible meets Game of Thrones, which...well, it's a choice, and Prime Video made it. Is it a good choice? We'll have to watch and find out.
House of David follows the same release schedule as Invincible and all the rest of Amazon's big shows, with three episodes dropping on the premiere date and then coming out at a rate of one per week for the rest of its eight-episode run.
