Even though 2025 didn't bring a new season of House of the Dragon or the premiere of fellow new Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, it's still been a great year for sci-fi and fantasy television. I mean, we got what shouldn't have been the final season of The Wheel of Time and the exciting new series Alien: Earth. Thankfully, next year will be even better.
In 2026, we'll be returning to Westeros two times over with both House of the Dragon season 3 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms both confirmed to premiere on HBO. But that's not the only fan-favorite franchise that will be delivering new season or even new series. We're also in for shows from The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and Star Wars franchises, among various others.
While it's still too soon to mark our calendars with any 2026 release dates as of this writing in August 2025, there are plenty of upcoming shows that have already been confirmed to hit our screens next year. More will surely be announced, but we're sharing the list of shows that have currently been marked for returns, premieres, and long-awaited comebacks in 2026!

Sci-fi and fantasy TV shows coming in 2026
Beyond the Game of Thrones spinoffs, which are likely two of the most highly anticipated fantasy releases of 2026, Prime Video also has The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 lined up for release next year, along with the highly anticipated The Boys season 5 and the thrilling new series Blade Runner 2099 starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer.
Over on Netflix, the streamer boasts a number of high-profile original series coming back from very extended hiatuses. Of course, that includes the Emmy-nominated series 3 Body Problem returning for season 2, along with Avatar: The Last Airbender and One Piece also returning for their second seasons. The Duffer Brothers' new series The Boroughs is also expected to drop in 2026 on Netflix.
The year will also bring plenty of franchises back with brand-new series, like the upcoming DC Comics show Lanterns coming to HBO in 2026. Paramount+ also debuts Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, while Disney+ preps the Star Wars animated series The Ninth Jedi and Maul — Shadow Lord and Marvel's next miniseries Vision Quest. Let's hope there's even more on top of these!
