It's been a very exciting week in Westeros, and the good news just keeps on coming! This past weekend House of the Dragon debuted its season 3 finale, and only a few days later showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed that season 4 is slated to begin filming in early 2027. Now, we've got an even more exciting update from HBO's other Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
On August 13, 2026, star Peter Claffey (Dunk) shared a brief video of his wrap gift for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 on his Instagram stories, confirming that he's officially done with shooting the show's sophomore season. Considering that his co-star Dexter Sol Ansell (Egg) also wrapped filming earlier this month, and that either Dunk or Egg is in nearly every scene of this series thanks to its tighter point-of-view, it's very likely that this means filming as a whole has finished for season 2.

That wrap gift, in case you're wondering, is a hurling stick, or hurley. They're used in the Irish sports of hurling and camogie, which makes it a very appropriate gift for Claffey, an Irish actor and former professional rugby player. I love the engravings on it, reading "The Hedge Knight" along the length of the stick with a carving of Dunk and Egg on the bottom in the style of the main poster for season 1.
Obviously, we're pretty excited about this news. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms took the A Song of Ice and Fire fandom by storm when it premiered its first season in early 2026, offering a funnier, lighter perspective on Westeros that still had all the shocking twists and turns viewers expect. At the heart of it all are the gigantic knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his small, bald, mouthy squire Egg, who go on adventures around the Seven Kingdoms as they cement their ridiculously endearing partnership. The first season adapted George R.R. Martin's novella "The Hedge Knight," which saw the pair head to a tourney at Ashford Meadow in the Reach.
Season 2 will bring the next book in The Tales of Dunk and Egg series to life, "The Sworn Sword." This novella is set around a year-and-a-half later, when a terrible drought has stricken the Reach. Dunk and Egg are caught in the middle of a land dispute between two minor nobles, each of whom lays claim to the same river. It's my personal favorite of the three Dunk and Egg novellas that Martin has published to date as well as the most unique of the bunch, so I'm very excited to see how Claffey, Ansell, showrunner Ira Parker, and the rest of the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms team adapt it for the screen.
"The Sworn Sword" is also Peter Claffey's favorite of Martin's three Dunk & Egg novellas, which just goes to show that he has great taste in addition to being an excellent actor. Truly, Dunk is one of us.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms had to be just as persistent as Dunk to film season 2
The fact that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 has seemingly wrapped production on schedule is even more impressive considering the unexpected challenges the shoot faced. As mentioned, this season takes place during a drought. To film those drier outdoor scene, the series left behind its home base in Northern Ireland to film in the Canary Islands in Spain. However, a historic storm flooded out their set there, forcing the series to find new locations for those scenes.
As Ira Parker told The Hollywood Reporter in late July, season 2 was "a f***ing bastard" to film. "The place we chose to shoot our drought in got a once-in-a-100-year storm," he explained. "It kept getting water, and we got rained out of locations. We got flooded. There were national emergencies. We had to put the crew on hiatus. We were going to go back — and then it happened again. There’s been so much stopping and starting that it’s been hard to get into a real cadence."
The one saving grace for the unprecedented production challenges facing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was its stars, whose easy on-screen rapport meant that when the show did get to film, things went as smoothly as possible. "[W]hat’s helped is that Peter and Dexter are a year more experienced and have their thing down," Parker said. "So we’ve sidestepped some of the growing pains of season one. Season two has been a fucking bastard."
When does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 come out?
Now that filming on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 is at an end for Dunk and Egg, we strap in for the wait while Parker and his crew work on post-production. Thankfully, we won't have to wait quite so long as we do between seasons of House of the Dragon. The second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 is still on track for an early 2027 release.
We'll have our ear to the ground for more news about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' upcoming season, but for now, we can rest easy knowing that Dunk, Egg, and their stalwart co-stars and crew have done their part to get it across the finish line.
