Day 114: New set photo from filming in Ouarzazate

A new set photo has leaked from the filming currently going on in Ouarzazate, Morocco. The photo, snapped by @marymoconnell, shows ranks of Unsullied standing by a mounted figure surrounded by crew and equipment.

According to reports, the production will be filming in Ouarzazate until November 6th. They will then have a short hiatus and move onto filming in Iceland at the end of the month.

Winter Is Coming: Is this scene what I think it is? The presence of the Unsullied, plus what may be green screens, seems to suggest that it is.

Well if they’re going by the size they are in the book, they should be about the size of this eagle : Click HERE (From that perspective too)

She raised the harpy’s fingers in the air…and then she flung the scourge aside.

“Freedom!” she sang out. “Dracarys! Dracarys!”

“Dracarys!” they shouted back, the sweetest word she’d ever heard. “Dracarys! Dracarys!” And all around them slavers ran and sobbed and begged and died, and the dusty air was filled with spears and fire.

I hope it’s Dracarys, but for obscure reasons I don’t think so. And those pannels don’t look like greenscreens but more for lightning reasons, just like those that Dany had in the desert.

Its probably the dracarys scene. The thing is that they used the impact of dracarys earlier in the show when she kills pyat pree on season 2. It will be a good scene to watch though.

Hum, in contrast to what everyone else is saying, to me this looks more like the siege of Yunkai (ending with Mother Mother Mother!), since it appears to be outside city walls. The taking of the Unsullied occurs within a plaza in a city.

    queenofthorns,

Now that i think of it it could be yunkai. Ifthe producers follow the show we get to know daario before the battle with yunkai begins. So we know that daario has been casted, that led me to believe that the yellow city could be the one in the photograh.

    Conor,

The white screens may be for lighting or to CGI over any possible modern landmarks that would come into view and destroy the scene I’m guessing.

But no doubt about it Dany’s storyline is going to kickass this season for sure. Last season she was a pouty little mother of dragons. This season she is going to own!

I’m not sure which, but it has to one of khaleesi’s siege attempts,
outside of one of the slave cities. The Unsullied appear too small in number,
but the area of detail is quite small. Are those brown and white pavilions
included for the scene, or GoT production suppliers ?

I don’t think it would be terribly difficult to tint the scenes red in post-production. I’m not talking about recoloring each brick, just making everything more “red,” like the yellowed Mexico shots of Breaking Bad.

To all the people confused with the “DRACARYS!” scene, it was in a plaza (Plaza of Punishment I think), surrounded by all the slaves; That element was the one that made that scene so fucking awesome: the slaves witnessed history.
Whatever is happening in that shooting I’m kind of sure it’s not THAT scene. Maybe is the Unsullied leaving Astapor, maybe is the end of the siege of Yunkai (or “MOTHER!” scene), who knows, but those are not a greenscreens, but deflectors, they are used to give a smooth lightning. Also, if they were making a CGI enhanced scene, there would be markers in the set to aid the tracking work in post-production.

Remember scenes are usually filmed in multiple settings, not just one locale. Essaouira was used for on wall shots and some street scenes (closed in shots). Ouarzazate probably is utilized for plaza’s, courtyards and perhaps some street scenes too (wide open vistas).

I know what happens. It’s how it happens that’s so friggen boring. I really like and enjoy ADWD, but Dany’s story makes me want to scratch my eyes out. From a storyteller’s perspective her character development makes sense, but Dany has always been a whiny little idiot. QUite frankly I’d have Caligula’s horse ruling a city rather than her. you dont need green screen to add stuff in the same scene except you want to hide something. you need green screen to cut the object out frm green background and paste it on the scene with 3d references. this might be astrapor! but it would be so much cool if its dracarys!

Slightly off topic, but does anybody think that the awesomeness of Dracarys was totally ruined by Dany using it to burn Pyat Pree at the end of S2?
As soon as Dany finds herself in any similar position, the audience will see the solution a mile away, and will make it feel cheap, instead of amazing.

    Ax0r,

No because they still have the line “a dragon is no slave” . It will be a big moment because i have no doubt the writers will make her parting with Drogon and emotional moment thinking she is to sacrifice him for her cause. If they play it right it will create a building tension as the audience realizes what is going to happen. As long as its an awesome set piece the audience won’t care at all. There will be more emotion, more raised stakes and plot momentum to this Dracarys scene.
